How Stability Osteopathy is different than other forms of treatment:

Stability Osteopathy's method is very much a hybrid form of neuro-musculo-skeletal treatment that has been developed through experience, current research, and classical treatment philosophies. It encompasses all aspects of rehabilitation and our method is unique within the field of osteopathy itself. While Osteopathy is it's own, unique discipline, it uses some elements similar to those found in other disciplines such as Massage Therapy and Physiotherapy.

What to expect during an assessment:

When you come to Stability Osteopathy we begin by going through an elaborate patient history. This does not just include the symptoms you are experiencing now, but also the path that led to your chronic pain or injury as well as your physical abilities or limitations.

The next step in treatment involves a neurological and orthopedic assessment. During this time we look at possible contributing factors to dysfunction and pain by identifying range of motion deficiencies, stability issues, possible areas with neurological communication issues, areas of weakness, overcompensation patterns, as well as any other issues you may be experiencing.

Treatment:

During the stability osteopathy treatment, we will identify exercises and different movement skills designed to help you improve your physical movement to get you in a position where you can begin to heal. We combine these exercises with manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue therapy, massage, joint mobilization, PNF and MET stretching techniques, and more.

Older Adults & Seniors

Athletes

Stability Osteopathy treats many injuries sustained by athletes such as ligament and tendon strains; whiplash, falls, and chronic or repetitive motion pain. Osteopathic treatment can also help alleviate symptoms such as headache, neck pain, restricted range of motion, memory issues, balance and muscle control issues as a result of post-concussion syndrome or whiplash. Various sports injuries, whether acute or chronic, often benefit from osteopathic care. Problems that persist from injury are often due to other areas not directly related to the problem area. These other areas could be negatively affecting the injury and preventing the complete resolution of the issue. It is this view of the body as a functional unit which enables the practitioner to understand complex pain and dysfunction patterns that the client may be experiencing. Bleeding, fractures, or serious sprains, these must be first be treated by medical professionals. However, once the injury has been stabilized, osteopathic care can help the healing process and restore function and mobility. Stability Osteopathy treats athletes in St. John’s, Mount Pearl and the surrounding metro area.

Doctors often recommend physical therapy (PT) for children and teens who have acute injuries or who experience movement deficits from illness, disease, or disability. Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) is a form of physical therapy that can help children overcome these obstacles. Stability Osteopathy can work with your child to decrease pain, improve movement, and help children return to daily activities.
